Implementing Microsoft SCCM for Efficient, Secure IT Operations

CLIENT:

A fast-growing aerospace and technology company with operations across multiple countries and a workforce of over 2,000 employees faced increasing complexity as it scaled. Operating in high-security, high-tech environments, the organization required robust IT infrastructure to ensure strong security, reliable software delivery, and consistent system performance.

As the organization expanded, endpoint management across manufacturing plants, mission control, test facilities, and remote teams became increasingly difficult. What once worked for a lean startup couldn’t keep up with a global operation. Software configurations drifted, compliance enforcement lagged, and deployment processes relied heavily on manual fixes – introducing inefficiencies, inconsistency, and growing operational risk.

CHALLENGE:

The client’s internal IT team had reached a point where manual or semi-automated processes for software deployment were no longer sustainable. As new employees joined and systems proliferated across locations, ensuring that every endpoint met compliance standards became both time-consuming and error-prone. Software updates were rolled out inconsistently, with IT teams often relying on local scripts or manual installations, which introduced risks of version drift, unpatched vulnerabilities, and configuration mismatches.

From a cost perspective, this fragmented approach was inefficient. IT resources were being pulled away from strategic initiatives to handle repetitive tasks and resolve deployment issues. Support tickets related to failed installations or incompatible versions were rising, and there was no centralized visibility into the health or configuration status of all devices. The absence of a centralized system also meant higher operational expenditures, with resources diverted to repetitive, avoidable tasks – highlighting the need for a cost-effective, scalable solution.

For a company working at the edge of aerospace innovation, any interruption to operational systems – even internal ones – can have cascading effects. the Client needed a solution that could centralize endpoint management across all its facilities, provide real-time compliance insights, automate routine tasks, and ultimately reduce the IT team’s operational burden without compromising flexibility or control.

SOLUTION:

REW Technology was brought in as a strategic implementation partner to help Client modernize its software deployment architecture using Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager (SCCM).

The engagement began with a full assessment of Client’s existing endpoint infrastructure, deployment workflows, and administrative policies. We worked closely with their IT leadership to document pain points, identify dependencies, and map out integration requirements with existing tools – such as Active Directory and WSUS.

From there, REW Technology designed a tailored SCCM infrastructure that aligned with Client’s global operations. The architecture accounted for multi-site deployment with bandwidth-efficient distribution points, integrated role-based access control (RBAC), and built-in reporting mechanisms to monitor compliance and deployment success rates. Particular attention was paid to network topology, offline device scenarios, and patch cadence policies to ensure the system would work reliably across distributed and occasionally disconnected environments.

Once the architecture was approved, we moved into implementation. A phased rollout was planned – starting with a pilot environment covering a representative sample of Client’s devices and users. This allowed the team to test policies, software packaging, and compliance rules in a controlled setting before scaling up.

The full rollout was executed with minimal disruption, leveraging SCCM’s automation features to schedule deployments, enforce policies, and standardize configurations. Where needed, custom task sequences were created to support Client’s specialized engineering tools and aerospace development environments.

Training and change management were key components of the engagement. We delivered targeted knowledge transfer sessions for Client’s IT administrators, ensuring they were equipped to manage the platform internally moving forward.

Comprehensive onboarding and post-deployment activities, including knowledge transfer and training sessions, ensured that the customer’s IT team was equipped to maintain the solution in the long term.

RESULT:

The benefits of the SCCM implementation were immediate and measurable. Client’s IT team gained centralized control over all software deployments, with full visibility into the status of each machine across its global footprint. Routine tasks that had previously required manual intervention – such as patching, installing line-of-business applications, or updating system images – were now automated and managed from a single console.

Support time for deployment-related incidents dropped significantly, freeing up IT resources to focus on forward-looking projects. Deployment success rates increased, with fewer failed installations or user-impacting configuration issues. The ability to push critical security patches organization-wide in a controlled and reportable way meant Client could meet internal compliance standards with confidence and speed.

Operationally, the standardization enabled by SCCM reduced the variability between machines, which translated to more predictable performance and easier troubleshooting. From a financial standpoint, the centralized solution eliminated wasteful redundancies and enabled Client to manage deployments in a far more cost-effective way. The reduction in support overhead, improved process efficiency, and minimized downtime translated into measurable savings – while the increased productivity of end users added to overall return on investment.

Most importantly, Client now has an endpoint management foundation that scales with its ambitions. As the company continues to grow and add new facilities, the SCCM infrastructure deployed by REW Technology provides a consistent, secure, and efficient approach to IT operations – supporting both current needs and future expansion.
