One of the company’s products — an innovative project focused on live sports

scoreboards with real-time visualization — was facing productivity issues:

  • Unpredictable spikes in demand were not effectively handled due to the scalability and reliability issues of on-premises infrastructure.
  • Insufficient processing of high data volumes significantly affected the ability to provide real-time updates for scoreboards and project’s overall profitability.
  • Difficulties in readily adopting innovations impacted both time to market and quality of new product features.
  • Despite the client’s desire for expansion, the project’s current state and underlying infrastructure was incompetent to effectively handle added sports.

SOLUTION:

The AWS solution for live sports scoreboards prioritizes real-time updates and system availability.

AWS Elastic Kubernetes Service (EKS) manages and scales the containers, while AWS Application Load Balancer (ALB) ensures high availability.

AWS Managed Kafka (MSK) handles real-time data streams for sport events updates.

Amazon Simple Storage Service (S3) is used as a cost-effective, high-performance and secure storage for the scoreboards assets, and Amazon RDS for PostgreSQL manages the database for persistent storage.

AWS Secrets Manager secures sensitive information and AWS Systems Manager (SSM) Parameter Store centralizes and manages configuration parameters such as Kafka connection info.

  • The client has achieved a cost-effective and scalable solution that seamlessly manages high data volumes during live sports events, ensuring consistent performance even during peak periods.
  • The platform offers easy extensibility and enhancement through the integration of new features and AWS services.
